The Gainesville High golf team is tied for third in an 18-team field after shooting an opening-round 316 in the North Georgia Golf Classic on Monday at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega.

Will Frankum, a senior, carded a 74 for the Red Elephants, and Matthew Cindea finished with a 79. Pep Brown carded an 80 for the Red Elephants.

Jake Price and Michael Thompson each carded an 83 for Habersham Central, which shot a 335 as a team. Josh Foster (82) led Johnson to a 356.

Austin Booker (75) and Aaron George (76) were the top scorers for Lumpkin County.

Milton leads the event after the first day with a 304. Spalding County shot 307, and Lambert is tied with Gainesville at 316.

Round 2 opens today at 8 a.m.

Baseball
NORTH HALL 18, WEST HALL 1:
Griffin Olson and Andrew Smith each had a grand slam for North Hall in an 18-1 win against West Hall on Monday in Oakwood.

Hamilton Harper added a double and three runs driven in for the Trojans (12-4, 11-3 Region 8-AAA). Olson finished the game with five RBIs and Smith had four RBIs.

The Trojans broke it wide open with eight runs in the third inning and ended the game with 10 more in the fourth.

Chris Stevens earned the win for North Hall and allowed three hits with three strikeouts in a four-inning game.
North Hall visits Lanier at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday in Sugar Hill.

FLOWERY BRANCH 6, MADISON COUNTY 4: Chase Hulsey earned the win on the mound for the Falcons (9-3, 5-2 Region 8-AAAA) and had two hits and an RBI at the plate on Monday in Danielsville.

Brody Thomas was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for Flowery Branch, and Jesse Brookshire added an RBI single.

Flowery Branch visits Salem at 6 p.m. today in Conyers.

JACKSON COUNTY 17, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 2: Tony Holton had a pair of two-run home runs for the Panthers (7-10, 7-7 Region 8-AA) in the second inning on Monday in Jefferson.

John Florentine was 4 for 4 with three runs scored and four RBIs for Jackson County, and Andy Williams had two hits and two RBIs.

The Panthers, who visit Hart County at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday in Hartwell, finished with 17 hits in the three-inning game.
