Falcons earn No. 3 seed

The Flowery Branch High baseball team swept both ends of a doubleheader (11-0, 8-2) against Rockdale County in the Region 8-AAAA tournament, securing the No. 3 seed to the Class AAAA state playoffs that begin May 6.

Andrew Laur struck out six and tossed a three-hit shutout in Game 1, as Flowery Branch cruised to a win in five innings.

Flowery Branch got the offense rolling in the top of the second when Breck Davidson led off with an infield single. Chase Hulsey followed with a double to right field, moving Davidson to third. Brody Thomas came through with a two-run double.

In Game 2, C.J. Navin belted a solo homer in the bottom of the second to put Flowery Branch up 4-2, and Davidson launched a three-run homer for the Falcons in the fourth.

NORTH HALL 11, OCONEE COUNTY 2: Preston Graham pitched a complete game with five strikeouts for North Hall in a win against Oconee County on Wednesday in Watkinsville. Griffin Olson had three hits and four RBIs, and Wade Phillips had a two-run home run in the second inning for the Trojans (20-5, 19-4 Region 8-AAA).

BUFORD 6, GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN 0: Jake Burnette struck out 11 hitters for his second consecutive complete game shutout on Wednesday in Buford. With the win, the Wolves (20-3, 14-1 Region 6-AA) will face Blessed Trinity for the region title today in Atlanta.

GAINESVILLE 17, WALNUT GROVE 5 (6 innings): Stephen Mason was 4-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs in Loganville. He also pitched five innings and struck out six, while give up one earned run for the Red Elephants (21-4, 19-4 8-AAA).

LANIER 4, CHESTATEE 0: Scott Chewning had three singles for the War Eagles on Wednesday in Gainesville. Chestatee hosts Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. Friday to wrap up the regular season.
