Sims Griffith notched three hits and two runs batted in and got the save on the mound for the Red Elephants (18-6, 12-2 Region 8-AAAAA). Michael Gettys had a hit and an RBI, and Caleb Whitenton added two hits for the Red Elephants.
Gainesville plays host to Cedar Shoals on Wednesday in Gainesville.
NORTH HALL 3, WHITE COUNTY 1: Drew Atha’s home run led the Trojans on Monday in Gainesville.
Corbin Lewallen went 1 for 3 with an RBI and earned the win on the mound for North Hall (16-7, 14-4 Region 7-AAA). Stephen Murray was 1 for 2 with an RBI, and Lincoln Hewett, Brock Wingo and Taber Mongero each recorded hits.
The Trojans visit Buford at 5:55 p.m. tonight in Buford.
JACKSON COUNTY 4, HART COUNTY 2: Patrick Overstreet’s two-run homer powered the Panthers on Monday.
Overstreet finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored as well for Jackson County (17-6, 8-4 Region 8-AAA), and Joel Ellis went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored. Andrew Fogarty was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Coleman Barbee earned the complete-game win pitching, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out six.
The Panthers visit East Jackson tonight in Commerce.
GAINESVILLE GIRLS 5, NORTH ATLANTA 0: Josie Evert and Haley Frankum won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles for the Lady Red Elephants in the first round of the Class AAAAA state tournament on Monday.
Georgia Summer, Katherine Wright and Brinkley Frankum earned singles wins for Gainesville, and Morgan Mercer/Suzanne Smith won at No. 1 doubles.
LAKEVIEW FINISHES FIFTH IN 8-A: John Jacobs carded an 85 and qualified for the Class A state tournament on May 19 in Augusta.
Gabe McConnell shot an 86 for the Lions.
JOHNSON GIRLS ADVANCE TO SECTIONALS: Led by Kristen Waters with a 101, the Lady Knights finished fourth in the Region 8-AAAA tournament on Monday at Double Oaks Golf Course in Commerce.
Lumpkin County finished seventh, led by Sydney Bates with a 95, and Chestatee’s girls took eighth.
