Weber leads Gainesville past Lumpkin County

Led by a strong pitching performance from Hunter Anglin, and the steady bat of Skyler Weber, the Gainesville High baseball team defeated Lumpkin County 5-1 on Friday in Dahlonega.

With the win, Gainesville (17-3, 15-3 Region 8-AAA) moves into a three-way tie with White County and North Hall for the top spot in the region.

Anglin (5-0) threw a complete game, striking out seven, while scattering four hits and giving up one run.

Weber went 2-for-4, with a double, home run and three RBIs, while Stephen Mason added a double and three runs scored on 2-for-4 hitting. Gainesville visits Oconee County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

NORTH HALL 15, STEPHENS COUNTY 0 (FOUR INNINGS): Jarred Oliver threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout to earn the win Friday in Gainesville.

Jesse Strickland went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for North Hall (16-4, 15-3 Region 8-AAA), which moves into a three-way tie with Gainesville and White County for the top spot in the region.

Hamilton Harper (3-for-3), Mason Savage (2-for-3) and Griffin Olson (2-for-3) each drove in two runs for the Trojans, who host Monroe Area at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

CHESTATEE 6, WALNUT GROVE 1: Scott Chewning threw a complete-game, striking out five, and the War Eagles rode a five-run first inning to the win Friday in Gainesville.

Michael Pinson (2-for-3) drove in three runs for Chestatee, while Corbin Smith (2-for-2) and Josh Turner (1-for-2) each drove in one. Brice Beck went 3-for-3 for the War Eagles, who visit Stephens County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

LAKEVIEW 12, SOCIAL CIRCLE 2: Jacob Whitenton and Spencer Sorrells each hit a home run to lead the Lions to a rout Friday in Social Circle.

Whitenton finished with four RBIs, and Taylor Simpson had two doubles for Lakeview (9-12, 8-8 Region 8-A), which visits Athens Academy at 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

JEFFERSON 19, JACKSON COUNTY 1 (FIVE INNINGS): Max Ford threw a complete game, scattering four hits and surrendering one run, while going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored in the win Friday at Jackson County.

Kevin Ross (3-for-5), Drew Carson (2-for-5) and Andrew Bartek (3-for-5) each drove in two runs, with Ross adding three runs scored for Jefferson (9-11, 8-10 Region 8-AA), which will visit Fannin County on April 22 in the first round of the region tournament at a time to be determined.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 6, ROCKDALE COUNTY 0 (THURSDAY):
Cassidy Elrod scored two goals, and added an assist, in the win in Flowery Branch.

Champions of Region 8-AAAA, the Lady Falcons (12-6, 10-0) will host the first round of the state tournament on April 26 against an opponent, and at a time, to be determined.

CHESTATEE 2, WEST HALL 1: Alexis Rebollar and Morgan Dooley each scored in the first half, and the Lady War Eagles won Friday in Gainesville.

Chestatee (13-3, 8-3 Area 8-AAA) visits West Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Shannon Mundy scored on a penalty kick for West Hall (11-5, 8-3 Area 8-AAA), which hosts Walnut Grove at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 4, SOCIAL CIRCLE 2: Devon Zwald, Lauren Lewallen, Liz Kenny and Jamie Nixon all scored for the Lady Lions (6-4, 2-4 Region 8-A) on Friday in Gainesville. Lindsey Brock had an assist on the goal from Nixon.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 1, SOCIAL CIRCLE 0: Mills Rogers scores the game's only goal for the Lions (5-7-1, 2-5 Region 8-A). James Bagwell recorded the shutout in the goal for Lakeview, which plays host to Towns County at 5 p.m. on Monday.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS EARN SECOND SEED:
Elizabeth Mallory earned two wins on the day, and the Lady Falcons defeated Rockdale County in the semifinals, before falling to Heritage in the Region 8-AAAA championship game Friday at Madison County.

The doubles teams of Dani Taylor/Durden Smith and Bekki Benton/Madison Smith won in straight sets against Rockdale County for Flowery Branch, which will host Dunwoody in the first round of the state tournament at a date and time to be determined.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS EARN SPOT THIRD SEED FOR STATE: With wins from Cris Dilidili, and the teams of Luke Smith/Anthony Monacella and Issac Black/Christopher Hedden, the Falcons defeated Winder 3-1 in the Region 8-AAAA third-place game on Friday at Madison County.

Flowery Branch will visit Dunwoody in the first round of the state tournament, at a time and date to be determined.
