Thomas' HR gives Union County a win

Trey Thomas came on in relief in the fifth inning to get Union County out of a bases loaded, no out jam then delivered the go-ahead, three-run homer in the bottom of the inning in a 6-5 win against Rabun County on Wednesday.

Dalton Everett was 3-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored for Union County.

With the win, Union County (13-7, 9-5 8A-AA) clinches second place in subregion 8A-AA and will host North Oconee in the first round of the Region 8-AA tourney next week. The Panthers visit Banks County at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Homer

WHITE COUNTY 3, WALNUT GROVE 1: David Sosebee improved to 7-0, striking out 16 batters while allowing one run on three hits and a walk. Kyle Mills, Hayden Cummins and Sosebee each had RBI singles for the Warriors (16-3, 15-3 8-AAA), who remain in first place in the region and play West Hall on Monday at 5:55 p.m.

JACKSON COUNTY 15, EAST JACKSON 5 (5 INNINGS): The Panthers (8-12, 8-9 Region 8B-AA) put up eight runs in the first inning and never looked back. Austin Robinson led the way with three RBIs and Trey Sorrels and Josh Andrews each drove in two runs. Matt Bridgeman picked up the win, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out one and walking one in four innings. The Panthers host Jefferson at 5:55 p.m. on Friday.

JOHNSON 11, MONROE AREA 1: A.J. Benefield earned the win on the mound, while adding two doubles and three RBIs at the plate for Johnson (9-11, 8-10 Region 8-AAA). Chris White hit a three-run home run, and Logan Pethel drove in a run for the Knights, who host Oconee County at 5:55 p.m. Friday in Oakwood.

GAINESVILLE BOYS DEFEAT NORTH HALL: With scramble wins from the teams of Reeves Bell/Grant Lasseter and Pep Brown/Will Frankum, the Red Elephants won the Principal's Cup, 3.5-2.5, over North Hall on Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club. The team of Charlie Matthews and Andy Bracewell earned a scramble win for North Hall.
