Lakeview Academy baseball beats Riverside Military, 9-5

After taking an 8-1 lead after the second inning, the Lakeview Academy baseball team held off a late surge by Riverside Military to earn the 9-5 win Tuesday at home.

Spencer Sorrells (3-1) earned the win, scattered nine hits, and held Riverside to one run in both the sixth and seventh. Sorrells threw a complete game, striking out six and walking three.

Taylor Simpson, Jacob Whitenton and Logan Jones each went 2-for-4 at the plate for Lakeview (8-10, 6-9 Region 8-A), with Simpson driving in two runs and Whitenton driving in one. Simpson also added two doubles for Lakeview, which hosts Athens Christian at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Riverside was led by Orlando Lynch (2-for-2) who hit two doubles and drove in three runs. Max Weiner went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Anfernee Seymour went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Riverside hosts Prince Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Golf
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 199, EAST HALL 241:
Kevin Baldwin fired a 47, and Chris Gay carded a 48, in the win Tuesday on the Village Course at Chicopee Woods. Lakeview next plays in the Region 8-A tournament at Highland Walk Golf Course in Royston.

LUMPKIN COUNTY GIRLS 102, OCONEE COUNTY 112: Morgan Wood (49) and Taylor Gooch (53) led the Lady Indians to the win Tuesday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega. Lumpkin County next plays in the Region 8-AAA tournament, beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday at Achasta.

OCONEE COUNTY BOYS 163, LUMPKIN COUNTY 169: Aaron George shot a 33, and Austin Booker recorded a 39, to lead the Indians in the loss Tuesday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Lumpkin County faces North Hall at 4 p.m. April 19 at Chestatee Golf Course, before playing in the Region 8-AAA tournament April 21 at The Hooch.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 95, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 104: Jessie Edge (46) and Caroline White (49) carded for the Lady Trojans on Tuesday at the Chestatee Golf Course.

North Hall next plays in the Region 8-AAA championship, beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Ashley Blackburn and Veronica Brooks each posted a 52 for Habersham Central, which faces Saint Pius X in the Golden Lion Challenge at 4 p.m. today at Laurel Springs.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 1, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 0:
Liza Carpenter scored unassisted with five minutes remaining to give the Lady Red Elephants (10-5, 7-3) the win Tuesday in Gainesville.

Hong Tran had six saves in goal for Gainesville, which hosts Johnson at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 2, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 1 (OT): Guillermo Santillan scored with two minutes left in overtime to give the Red Elephants a win Tuesday.

Yonas Yanas scored on an assist from Charlie Bryant to tie the game in the second half. Gainesville (12-2) hosts Johnson at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 2, SALEM 1: (PK'S): Cassidy Elrod scored the only goal in regulation for the Lady Falcons on Tuesday in Conyers.

Flowery Branch (11-6, 9-0 Area 8-AAAA) has already secured the region championship, and will host Rockdale County at 7 p.m. Thursday for its last regular season game.

JOHNSON GIRLS 10, MONROE AREA 0: Kayla Madsen and Kayln Dumanowsky each scored two goals in the first half and the sixth-ranked Lady Knights cruised to the win Tuesday in Monroe.

Madsen and Dumanowsky each added an assist for Johnson (12-2-1, 10-1 Area 8-AAA), while Emily Byers scored a goal and recorded two assists. Ana Torres scored three goals in the second half for Johnson, which visits Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

WEST HALL GIRLS 5, WALNUT GROVE 0: Elizabeth Gale, Tania Perez, Katie Forrester, Monica Pascual and Rachel Kline each scored in the win Tuesday in Gainesville.

Gale's goal was the first of her career at West Hall (12-4, 8-1 Area 8-AAA), which visits Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

WEST HALL BOYS 3, WALNUT GROVE 1: Chandler Ligas recorded a hat trick in the win Tuesday in Oakwood. Omar Castillo and Matt Lewis each had an assist for West Hall (10-4-1, 7-1 Area 8-AAA), which visits Chestatee at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

JOHNSON BOYS 5, MONROE AREA 1: Jonathan Mendoza scored two goals, and Israel Azuarra and Edgar Ochoa each had a goal and an assist in the win Tuesday in Monroe.


Silviano Cuaves also scored for Johnson (13-2, 10-1 Area 8-AAA), which also received assists from Jesus Muniz and Israel Avila.

The Knights visit Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. Friday at City Park.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 2, STEPHENS COUNTY 1: Lauren Wassel scored with two miinutes left to play to give the Lady War Eagles a win Tuesday.

Alex Rebollar also scored for Chestatee (12-3, 7-3 Area 8-AAA), which hosts West Hall at 6 p.m. Friday.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 74, LUMPKIN COUNTY 53, WHITE COUNTY 48:
Gabrielle Hoffman set a new school record in the pole vault to lead the Lady Trojans to the win Tuesday. Hoffman recorded a vault of 10 feet, breaking her own record of 8-foot-6.
