Flowery Branch girls clinch Region 8-AAAA championship

Julia Sienkiewicz scored on an assist from Izzy Lee, and the Flowery Branch girls soccer team secured the Region 8-AAAA championship with a 1-0 win over Heritage on Friday in Conyers.

Lauren Dunn earned the shutout in goal with five saves for Flowery Branch (10-6, 8-0 Region 8-AAAA), which visits Salem at 6 p.m. April 12.

CHESTATEE 8, MONROE AREA 0: Alexis Rebollar scored three goals and added an assist in the win Friday in Gainesville. Chestatee (11-3, 6-3 Area 8A-AAA) visits Stephens County at 5:30 p.m. April 12.

JOHNSON BOYS 6, WALNUT GROVE 2 (THURSDAY): Ariel Mejia scored two goals and Ben Cervantes recorded two assists in the win for the fifth-ranked Knights.

GAINESVILLE 10, LANIER 0 (SIX INNINGS):
Ryan Griffith earned the complete-game win with four strikeouts, and Chandler Kemp hit a three-run home run for the Red Elephants (13-2, 11-2 Region 8-AAA) on Friday at Ivey-Watson Field. Stephen Mason had three RBIs for Gainesville, which faces White County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

UNION COUNTY 7, BANKS COUNTY 0: Zach Odom went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Panthers (10-5, 6-3 Region 8-AA) to the win Friday in Blairsville.

Brock Gordon (6-3) earned the win, giving up three hits while striking out four for Union County, which visits Rabun County at 2 p.m. today.

BUFORD 11, WESTMINSTER 5: Mason Gentry went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs to lead the Wolves (13-1, 7-0 Region 6A-AA) to the win Friday in Buford.

Brian Clark added a home run on 1-for-3 hitting for Buford, which hosts North Gwinnett at 1 p.m. April 9.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 4, FRANKLIN COUNTY 1 (THURSDAY):
Morgan Van Meter, Anna Eades and the doubles teams of Valerie Bohannon/Kari Butts and Katie Smith/Ava Voss won in straight sets for North Hall in the win.
