High school basketball: Season ends for Falcons, both Lakeview teams

Flowery Branch couldn’t overcome a 7-for-17 shooting night from the free-throw line and lost to Elbert County 51-48 on Saturday in Elberton.

Phillips Chau and Brian Welchel led the Falcons (16-13) with 13 points a piece.

Flowery Branch trailed by nine points at the half, and cut the deficit to four points at the start of the fourth quarter, but it was unable to complete the comeback.

Rod Rucker led the Eagles with 23 points.

Flowery Branch’s season is now complete.

Paideia girls 31, Lakeview Academy 26

Despite holding Paideia to seven points in the second half, the Lakeview girls’ season came to an end with a loss to Paideia in the first round of the Class A state tournament Saturday at Paideia.

Megan Rochester led Lakeview with 13 points.

The Lady Lions (17-8) battled back from an eight-point halftime deficit to pull within three points at the start of the fourth.

They managed to score only one point to the Lady Pythons three in the fourth quarter, however, ensuring the victory for Paideia.
Alex Abraham led the Lady Pythons with 11 points.

Lakeview’s season is now complete.

Greenforest Christian 86, Lakeview Academy 75

The Lions’ season came to an end Saturday with an 11-point loss to Greenforest Christian.

Haughton Carswell scored a team-high 23 points and Tyler Ward added 17 for Lakeview Academy (18-11). Daniel Olvera also scored in double figures with 10 points.

Five players scored in double digits for the Eagles (25-4), with Jamail Jones scoring 19, Jeff White with 16, Joe Chase and Jimmy Gibson with 15 and Jonathan Merrit with 14.

The Lions trailed 40-39 at halftime, but the balanced attack of the Eagles proved to be too much in the second half as Greenforest Christian scored 25 points in the third to take a commanding lead.

Lakeview’s season is now complete.
