After Gainesville wrapped up its state semifinal sweep of Jones County last week, athletic director Wayne Vickery leaned back against the rail on the steps overlooking Ivey-Watson Field, where he won five state titles as the school’s baseball coach. It was a time to reflect on all the great moments he’d experienced in the past and will miss once his time as athletic director comes to a close when the season is complete. “This has been a special place for me for so many years,” Vickery said.
