Eagles take state swimming title

The Riverside Military Academy swim team captured its sixth consecutive GISA state title with a win Saturday at Riverside. The Eagles finished with 101 points ahead of second place finisher Augusta Prep Day School.

Mount de Sales Academy finished third with 65 points. First Presbyterian Day finished fourth with 57 points. The rest of the finishers in order were Brookwood School, Dominion Christian, Southland Academy, Stratford Academy, Westminster Schools of Augusta, Tattnall Square Academy, Deerfield Windsor, George Walton Academy and Central Fellowship Christian.

Chestatee High’s Sara Schwanke finished with a state qualifying time and first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 freestyle in a meet Friday.

Flowery Branch’s Taylor Howard placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and second in the 200 freestyle. Katie Sanford placed third in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle.

Gainesville’s Hallie Hene was third in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Andrew Aubuchon was second in the 200 freestyle and second in the 500 freestyle.

North Hall’s Jannette Smitherman took sixth in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 200. Matthew McKinley was fourth in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle.

Mark Ryder finished fourth in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 50 freestyle.
