Buford softball one win away from elite eight

The Buford High softball team picked up a pair of wins Friday, defeating Crawford County 8-0, in six innings, and Jefferson 4-0 in the class AA North Sectionals in Dalton.

The defending state champion Lady Wolves (29-2-1) extended their win streak to 26 straight.

Sophmore pitcher Karly Fullem led Class AA’s top-ranked Buford to their first win by throwing a perfect game and recording 10 strikeouts in the pitching circle. The shutout was Fullem’s sixth of the season.

Senior Whitney Holman went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI’s, and a run for Buford. Sophomore Chelsie Thomas had two hits, an RBI, and three runs for the Lady Wolves. Junior Alysha Rudnik had an RBI double and Brandi Hellemn drove in a run for Buford.

Sophmore Melissa Dickie picked up the win for the Lady Wolves against the Dragons, striking out eight batters and giving up just three hits. The shutout was the seventh of the season for Dickie.

Alysha Rudnik led Buford at the plate with two doubles, an RBI, and a run. Samantha Ramey went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Lady Wolves. Freshman Lexi Overstreet added an RBI and a run and sophomore Whitney Wolfe drove in a run for Buford.

Buford faces North Oconee at 2 p.m. today in Dalton. With a win, the Lady Wolves advance to the elite eight at the South Commons in Columbus.
