Buford knocks off Fannin County in first round

Buford swept its first round Class AA playoff series with some great pitching against Fannin County on Friday at Gerald McQuaig Field in Buford.

Jake Burnette pitched a five-inning no-hitter against the Rebels in a 10-0 Game 1 victory, followed by a one-hit performance on the mound in the second game by Josh Heddinger in a 13-1 win to lock up the series.

With the win, the Wolves (23-3) will play host to the Calhoun/Temple winner in the second round on Wednesday in another best-of-three series. Calhoun is the defending Class AA state champions.

In Game 1, Troy Herterick and Tyler White each drove in a pair of runs for the Wolves. Brian Clark had two hits and drove in a run for Buford.

In the second game, Heddinger added two hits and two runs driven in. Jamie Ritchie had three hits and an RBI for the Wolves, and Adam Hampton added three RBIs.
