High school scoreboard: Seven North Hall wrestlers advance to traditional state semifinals

Day one of the GHSA wrestling traditional state meet brought plenty of success for Hall County champion North Hall. The Trojans sent seven wrestlers to the 3A state semifinals thanks to a handful of favorable results Thursday. 

North Hall’s Dawson Thompson (106 pounds), Jacob Pedraza (113), Matthew Glenn (126), Jackson Whitmire (132), Hunter Adams (160), Seth Carlton (220) and Bowie Eisenberg (285) all advanced to the semifinal round of the 3A state tournament. 

Also from local teams, East Hall’s Luis Garcia made it to the 3A semis at 126 pounds. He will take on Glenn in a semifinal bout Friday afternoon. Flowery Branch’s Kenley Chadwick reached the 4A semifinals at 120 pounds. 

The semifinals will commence on Friday, with championship bouts coming Saturday afternoon.  


FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 3, GAINESVILLE 2: Jack Thomas, Gunnar Hetzel and Matthew Helms all won in singles for the Falcons. For the Red Elephants, Michael Head/Caleb Anderson and Joseph Diaz/Matthew Carter took home doubles victories. 

Flowery Branch visits Buford at 4 p.m. on Feb. 25.

BUFORD BOYS 3, MILL CREEK 2: Wins came from Brady Todd, Dean Kingsley and Luke Davidson for the Wolves (2-1).

Buford visits Clarke Central at 4 p.m. on Feb. 28.

BUFORD GIRLS 4, MILL CREEK 1: In singles, wins came from Alex Mann, Callie Perkins and Izzy Brewer. Also for the Lady Wolves (2-1), Kennedy Delaoch/Kylie McCammon won in doubles. 

Buford visits Clarke Central at 4 p.m. on Feb. 28


BUFORD 9, MILL CREEK 4: Dylan Lasko threw three innings with five strikeouts for the Wolves on Thursday in Hoschton. In relief, Riley Stanford pitched two innings with another two strikeouts. 

At the plate, Austin Turner had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run.

Bryce Morin had a home run and drove in three runs for Buford. 

Buford visits Marist at 5:30 p.m. today in Atlanta.
