North Hall wrestlers continued their successful run through the traditional state meet Friday, as four Trojans advanced to individual state finals. Jacob Pedraza (113 pounds), Matthew Glenn (126), Seth Carlton (220) and Bowie Eisenberg (285) each won semifinal bouts Friday to earn an opportunity to compete for a state title this afternoon.
Glenn’s win came over East Hall’s Luis Garcia. Flowery Branch’s Kenley Chadwick (120) fell to John Jones in the 4A bracket.
Clemson University signee Kaylee Sticker became Dawson County High’s all-time leading scorer with 32 points in a 71-60 win against Coahulla Creek to open the Class 3A state tournament on Friday in Dalton.
Her mark breaks the previous school record for the Lady Tigers of 1,604 points.
With the win, Dawson County visits Lovett in the second round next week in Atlanta. Game time and date are still to be determined.
Also for the Lady Tigers, Marlie Townley had 14 points, while Maddie Anglin chipped in 11.
Dawson County found itself up 17-12 after the first period, but that was narrowed to 32-30 at halftime. After outscoring Coahulla Creek by five points in the third quarter, Dawson County secured the win with a 23-19 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
GAINESVILLE GIRLS 7, BERKMAR 0: Amayia Luke and Anna Ruiz each had a pair of goals for the Lady Red Elephants. Also for Gainesville (1-1), Jessica Hackney and McKenna Filson scored one goal, while Cindy Bonilla finished with a team high two assists. An own goal was put in by Berkmar.
Gainesville visits Chestatee at 5:30 on Tuesday.
GAINESVILLE BOYS 2, BERKMAR 1: Armando Hernandez scored both goals for the Red Elephants (2-0) with assists by Pedro Santos.
Gainesville visits Chestatee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 4, CEDAR SHOALS 2: Michael Montez and Jamal Larach scored two goals each for the Falcons (1-2). Assists came in from Andres Jimenez, Judah Myers, Max Garnett and Cole Biasi.
Flowery Branch visits Johnson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
JOHNSON GIRLS 9, WEST HALL 1: Dani Malone led the Lady Knights (1-1) with four goals. Also for Johnson, Maria Rivera and Jenna DeGroot scored two each, while Carla Avalos score one.
Johnson hosts Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
