High school golf: Ryan Hogan leads Gainesville boys golf program to Region 8-6A championship

Ryan Hogan carded a team-best and was low medalist with a 74 for the Gainesville High boys golf program as it won the Region 8-6A championship Monday at Apple Mountain Golf Club in Clarkesville. It marks the Red Elephants’ eighth straight region championship and 40th in school history. Gainesville’s four best scores totalled a 309, 25 strokes better than second-place Dacula and 47 shots better than third-place Habersham Central. 

Also for Gainesville, senior Davis Weaver shot a 76 and Hall County champion Andrew Hughes fired a 79.

Up next, Gainesville hosts The Invite on April 27-28 at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS DEFEAT HABERSHAM CENTRAL AND JOHNSON: Freshman Karina Collins shot a 45 for the Red Elephants (145) in a win against Habersham Central and Johnson on Monday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville. The Lady Raiders were the runner-ups with a score of 171. The Lady Knights finished third with a score of 175.

Gainesville visits Union County on Thursday in Blairsville.
