North Hall vs. Union County

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: The Brickyard, Gainesville

Records: North Hall (2-5, 2-1 Region 7-3A); Union County (4-3, 0-3)

What to know: After a slow start to the season, the Trojans are right in the thick of the playoff race in 7-3A, after wins against Fannin County and Lumpkin County. Meanwhile, Union County started the season hot before losing all three region matchups. The Panthers likely need to win out with games against North Hall, Fannin County and Lumpkin County to have a shot at the postseason. Leading the way for the Panthers is senior quarterback Cole Wright, who has thrown for 938 yards and 13 touchdowns, and rushed for 611 yards. In 2016, North Hall beat Union County 35-32.

Chestatee vs. Blessed Trinity

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: War Eagles Stadium, Gainesville

Records: Chestatee (4-3, 0-1 Region 7-4A); No. 5 Blessed Trinity (6-1, 1-0)

What to know: Senior running back Nick Lyles was held to 70 yards rushing in the War Eagles’ 28-14 region loss to West Hall on Oct. 6. Lyles leads Chestatee with 958 yards and 18 touchdowns. The final three games of the regular season are all region matchups for the War Eagles in their five-team region. Blessed Trinity dominated White County, 50-14, in its region opener last week. The Titans run a well-balanced offense, steered by junior quarterback Jake Smith who has thrown for 1,108 yards and nine touchdowns. Blessed Trinity’s running game is led by junior Steele Chambers (696 yards, nine touchdowns) and sophomore Elijah Green (605 yards, six touchdowns). 

Buford vs. Cedar Shoals

When: 7:30 tonight

Where: Tom Riden Stadium, Buford

Records: No. 3 Buford (4-1, 2-0 Region 8-5A); Cedar Shoals (3-3, 0-2)

What to know: The Wolves are making easy work of region opponents, winning both games by a combined 115-7. Ten different Buford players scored a touchdown in its 70-0 win against Johnson on Oct. 6. Wolves quarterbacks Aaron McLaughlin and Will Westmoreland each threw for two scores. After a good start to the season, the Jaguars have lost region matchups against Flowery Branch and Clarke Central. 

Flowery Branch at Loganville

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: Red Devils Stadium, Loganville

Records: Flowery Branch (6-1, 3-0 Region 8-5A); Loganville (1-5, 1-1)

What to know: The Falcons are rolling right along and likely need just one more win to lock up a postseason spot. Sophomore quarterback Elijah Gainey topped the 1,000-yard passing mark for Flowery Branch in its 49-13 win against Walnut Grove on Oct. 6. Malik Damons is the biggest threat in the Falcons’ running game with his 908 yards this season. Malik Drayton has 609 and 12 touchdowns for Flowery Branch. Loganville’s lone region win was a 21-17 contest against Walnut Grove on Sept. 22. The Red Devils are led on offense by senior quarterback David Smith, who has thrown for 524 yards and five touchdowns. 

West Hall at Marist

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: War Eagles Stadium, Atlanta

Records: West Hall (5-2, 1-0 Region 7-4A); No. 6 Marist (6-0)

What to know: The Spartans are still right in the race for the region championship in this five-team region. West Hall won its region opener with a stout defensive effort against Chestatee, 28-14, on Oct. 6. Marist has dominated through six regular season games and all four region games remaining.  

Johnson at Clarke Central

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: Billy Henderson Stadium, Athens

Records: Johnson (0-7, 0-3 Region 8-5A); Clarke Central (5-2, 2-1)

What to know: Clarke Central remains a solid contender for the playoffs for coach David Perno, who was formerly baseball coach at the University of Georgia, after region wins against Loganville and Cedar Shoals. Johnson lost to Clarke Central 52-14 last season. 

Lakeview Academy vs. George Walton Academy

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: Jock Hornor Field, Gainesville

Records: Lakeview Academy (2-4, 1-4 Region 8-A); George Walton (5-1, 4-1)

What to know: With four games remaining, the Lions would likely need to win out to earn a playoff spot in the Class A private schools postseason. Meanwhile, George Walton is cruising right along after back-to-back region wins against Providence Christian and Athens Christian. In 2016, George Walton beat Lakeview Academy 51-21.

Dawson County vs. Fannin County

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: Tiger Stadium, Dawsonville

Records: Dawson County (4-2, 2-0 Region 7-AAA): Fannin County (2-4, 0-2 Region 7-3AAA)

What to know: Last week Dawson County defeated Union County 52-21 in Tiger Stadium. Union County had a bye last week before they loss to Greater Atlanta Christian 55-7 the week prior. In the Tiger’s win last week Coey Watson threw for 195 yards and had two touchdowns. Dawson County running back SeVaughn Clark totaled 202 yards on the ground against the Panthers. In the Rebel’s last game, Mason Rhodes had seven tackles while his teammate Bailey White recorded five tackles. Dawson County is 5-8 against Fannin County, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association. Last season the Tigers defeated the Rebels 52-13.

Habersham Central vs. Lanier

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: Raider Stadium, Mount Airy

Records: Habersham Central (1-5, 0-1 Region 8-6A); Lanier (3-3, 0-1 Region 8-6A)

What to know: Habersham Central dropped their region opener against Gainesville in a 30-27 loss at Bobby Gruhn Field. Baylor Hinshaw rushed 91 yards against the Red Elephants. Lanier lost to Winder-Barrow last week, 24-21, after a Bulldoggs’ blocked field goal. Zach Calzada threw 194 yards for the Longhorns. Kevonte Polk had 95 yards on the ground for Lanier.

Lumpkin County vs. Greater Atlanta Christian

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: Indians Stadium, Dahlonega

Records: Lumpkin County (0-6, 0-2 Region 7-AAA); No. 2 Greater Atlanta Christian (6-1, 3-0 Region 7-3A)

What to know: Lumpkin County quarterback Chandler Woodham had 194 yards in the air in a 55-14 loss to North Hall last week in Gainesville. Tucker Kirk rushed for 131 yards for Lumpkin County and scored a touchdown for the Indians. Greater Atlanta Christian defeated East Hall last week 59-0 in Norcross. Kyler McMichael, a Clemson commit, scored three touchdowns for the Spartans.

Riverside Military Academy vs. Commerce

When: 7:30 p.m. tonight

Where: Tiger Field at Ray Lamb Stadium, Commerce

Record: Riverside Military Academy (0-6) Commerce (5-1, 4-1 Region 8-A)

What to know: Riverside Military Academy had their sixth loss of the season after losing 40-20 against Athens Academy before their bye week last week. Commerce dominated Providence Christian 55-0 last week. The Tigers had seven different players score in there win last week. DaJuan Wood scored two touchdowns for Commerce. Commerce leads the series 3-1, winning three meetings since 2010 against Riverside Military.
