Classmates Anthony Grutadaurio and Grant Lackey each crossed the plate twice, while relief pitcher Zack Wagner recorded three strikeouts over two shutout innings on the mound to capture the save for the Falcons (18-15).
With the win, Flowery Branch next faces top-seeded Arabia Mountain for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Thursday as part of the best-of-three, second-round series in Lithonia.
JEFFERSON TAKES FIRST-ROUND SERIES: Kade McNally (3 for 4, 2 RBI) smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Dragons past Chestatee in walk-off fashion, 6-4, in Game 3 of a Class 4A first-round series Saturday in Jefferson.
Jefferson’s Vinny Farley earned the complete-game win pitching, tossing five strikeouts while only giving up three hits and one earned run. Classmates Ryan Godfrey (3 for 4, double) and Justin Cole (2 for 4, double) drove in two runs apiece for the top-seeded Dragons (20-10), who host No. 2 seed Northwest Whitfield for a second-round doubleheader Thursday at a time to be determined.
Joe Sutton was the only War Eagle to record multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Storm Yarbrough (1 for 3) and Will Cantrell each drove in a run for Chestatee, which ends its 2018 campaign with a 17-16 mark.
