ATHENS — Georgia has gotten some good news from the NCAA about linebacker Jarvis Jones: He's eligible to play this season.
The NCAA reviewed Jones' status, as did the Southeastern Conference, after a police investigation into alleged corruption within the Columbus parks and recreation department found that an administrator had provided benefits to the player in 2009.
The governing body found no violation of its rules, clearing Jones to take the field this season.
Coach Mark Richt thanked the NCAA for making a quick decision and says he's ready to get on with preparations for Sept. 3 season opener against Boise State.
