OMAHA, Neb. — Due to rain forcing a change in the College World Series schedule, sixth-ranked Georgia will now play seventh-ranked Stanford at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Bulldogs (43-23-1) were slated to play the Cardinal (41-23-2) today, but showers in the Omaha area forced the postponement of the LSU-North Carolina elimination game Thursday. The Tigers and Tarheels will now play today while the rest of the field will have an off day.

For Georgia, it will mark its fourth straight off day following its win over Stanford 4-3 on Monday. The Bulldogs are 2-0 in their bracket, while the Cardinal eliminated top-ranked Miami on Wednesday.

Georgia needs to win one more game to advance to the national championship best-of-three game series, which will still begin Monday. Meanwhile, the Cardinal would need to defeat Georgia on Saturday and Sunday to win the bracket.

“We’ve seen Stanford, and we know they are well-coached and play very good baseball,” said Georgia coach David Perno. “We don’t get caught up with who we are playing, because it’s about us and doing what we do well. That’s what is important.

“It was a great game the last time with them, and we happened to score one more run and won. Everybody is on edge and ready to play after these past few off days. We feel a little caged up so we’re excited to be playing (today).”

Junior right-hander Trevor Holder (8-4, 4.45 ERA) will get the start for the Bulldogs. It will be his team-leading 17th start this season.

In the postseason this year, Holder is 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA in three starts over a span of 16.2 innings.
Prior to this year, the last time Georgia began a College World Series 2-0 was the 1990 national championship season. The Bulldogs are now 8-9 all-time at the College World Series and 4-4 under Perno.
