LAWRENCEVILLE — The Gwinnett Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 4-2 on Monday at Coolray Field.

Trailing 1-0, Mitch Jones got the G-Braves on the scoreboard with an RBI single that scored Jordan Schafer, who led off the fifth with a single to center. With runners at first and second, Joe Thurston, who finished 3-for-4, doubled to center to score Jones and Barbaro Canizarez and give Gwinnett the lead for good.

After Scranton cut the deficit to one run on an RBI groundout from Eduardo Nunez in the top of the seventh, the G-Braves added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a throwing error by Nunez that allowed Freddie Freeman to score.

Todd Redmond picked up his sixth win of the year by allowing one run in six innings on the mound. Michael Dunn came on in the ninth to record his fourth save and lower his ERA to 0.68.

Gwinnett (25-31) visits last-place Norfolk at 7:15 tonight.
