The Pawtucket Red Sox defeated the Gwinnett Braves 3-2 at McCoy Stadium on Thursday afternoon in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
G-Braves left fielder Mitch Jones had three doubles on the day, which ties him with catcher Clint Sammons for the most doubles in a game in G-Braves history.

Sammons achieved the feat on June 3, 2009 against Rochester. Pawtucket clinched the series win with today’s victory, as Gwinnett (15-18) now sits in second place in the International League South and 4 1/2 games behind Durham for first place.

Pawtucket (15-19) is in fourth place and is six games behind Syracuse for first place.

With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, Sammons flied out to left field for the final out, sealing the victory for Pawtucket.

Gwinnett starter Ryne Reynoso (0-5) allowed three runs on nine hits in his six innings of work. Reynoso is still winless after eight starts for the G-Braves dating back to last season. Stephen Marek pitched 2 innings in which he gave up no hits for Gwinnett.

Jones went 3-for-4 with three doubles and a run scored. Jones leads the team in doubles (13) and is now second in the International League.

Sammons (1-for-4) and Clevlen (1-for-2) both had an RBI each.

Pawtucket’s Kris Johnson (2-2) earned the victory by striking out five batters in six innings. Joe Nelson earned his first save of the season.

PawSox shortstop Niuman Romero went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Catcher Gustavo Molina 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Gwinnett plays host to Lehigh Valley in game one of a four-game series starting at 7:05 p.m. tonight at Coolray Field. Braves LHP Jo-Jo Reyes of the Atlanta Braves is scheduled to start for Gwinnett on an MLB rehab assignment – to be followed by regular starter, right hander Tim Gustafson. Gwinnett is scheduled to face Lehigh Valley’s Joe Savery (0-2, 5.00 ERA) of the IronPigs.
