Local golf: Shell wins at Chicopee

Jerry Shell placed first in the individual competition Wednesday as the DPG played Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Shell fired a +2 to take first place and then teamed with Dwight Miller to shoot at +3 and win the team competition.

Friday’s match was won by Shell with a +8. Doug Padgett took second with a score of +4 and Dave Jetter was third with +2.

DOGFIGHT: The Wednesday Dogfight took place at Chicopee Woods this week. In the team competition, first place went to Dave Sellers, Jerry Horton, Ron Melin and Cleve Sexton with a combined score of 17-under-par. Greg Lee, Mark Black, Tommy Calhoun and Terry MacFarland fired a 16-under-par to place second.

In the individual competition, Calhoun placed first with a 67, Sellers was second with a 68, Walt Hope was third with a 69 and MacFarland tied Sexton for fourth at 70.

The Dogfight was also held on Nov. 11 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. In that competition, the team of Greg Lee, Geoff Archibald and Larry Miller tied Jim Arendt, Yoshi Keichii and Richard Drye at 17-under-par for first place in the team event.

In the individual match, Clark Spratlin, Archibald and Nick Hart each fired a 65 to tie for first. Richard Drye took fourth with a 67, Tim Reed placed fifth with a 68 and Roy Bartlett finished in sixth with a 70.

CMGA: Carlyle Cox, Claude Schneider and Paul Payne placed first on Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played a three best-ball, aggregated net-points game at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Second place went to Dave Gleason, Guy Long, Jack Costello and Greg Taira, while Don Sorrell, Joe Roberts, Stu Virgin and Bob Layne tied Joe Kolesar, Larry Cohan, Glynn Rogers and Bill Sutton for third.

Closest to the pin winners were: Doug Van on No. 3, Long on No. 5, Glynn Rogers on No. 12 and Leroy Harper on No. 17.
