Local golf: Foursome wins net-strokes event

Johnny Little teamed with Ed Pledger, Roger Miller and Dick Bachman to take first place, as the Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played a two best-ball, aggregated net-strokes game Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Tim Solyst, Bob Henderson, Clay Bartlett and Joe Kolesar placed second while Matt Sorrell, Bob Pyne, Bob Layne and Don Sorrell took third. Don Wells, Jim Carroll, Don Gage and Greg Taira tied the team of Bill Kopecky, Bill Hardman and Richard McClure and the team of Herb Sckerl, Jim Hollobaugh, Ben Brooks and Roger Futrell for fourth.

Closest to the pin winners were McClure on No. 3, Jere Cochran on No. 5, Gage on No. 12 and Bartlett hitting a hole-in-one on No. 17.

DOGFIGHT: Jim Arendt, Dan Arthurs and Don Schrum combined to fire a score of 16-under-par for first place, as the Wednesday Dogfight took place at Chicopee Woods Golf Course this week. Greg Lee, Mark Black and Jerry Horton (14-under) placed second, while Jeff Fraiser, Bob Arendt and Yoshi (11-under) placed third. Fraiser and Len Kaper tied for first at 68 in the individual competition, with Lee (69) placed third and Jim Arendt (70) placed fourth. Arthurs, Tommy Calhoun and Schrum tied for fifth at 71.

LUNA: The team of Stan Davidson, Jr., Tom Sexton, Richard Strickland and Chad Pierce took first place, as the Luna’s Tuesday Golf Course played at Chicopee Woods this week. Second place went to the team of Larry Cleek, Tommy Lowery, Nelson Wright and Johnny Nix, with third place going to Bud Chandler, Joe Roberts, Doug Van and Cleve Brown. Closest to the pin winners were Brown on the School No. 4, Roberts on School No. 8, Davidson on Village No. 4 and Pierce on Village No. 7.

DPG: Bob Kidd placed first Monday and third Wednesday as the DPG played matches this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. On Monday, Martha Shell placed second, Dennis Jones was third and Steve Knowles placed fourth. Denis Jordan won Wednesday’s match, with Norm Phillips in second.
