Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club has solid showing on first day of National Team Trials

The US Canoe & Kayak Flatwater National Team Trials kicked off with a solid showing from athletes from the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club on Saturday at the Lake Lanier Olympic Park.

The LCKC’s Farran Smith had two top three finishes, earning first in the Junior Women’s K1 (one-person kayak) 500-meter race (2 minutes, 2.37 seconds) and was third in the Senior Women’s K1 500 (2:00.465). Also in Junior Women’s K1 500, Lisa Swenson took third place (2:02.66).

In the junior men’s K1, 1,000 Owen Farley-Klacik won with a time of 3:51.85. In the Junior Men’s C-1 (one-person canoe), Edward Surles from the LCKC finished second with a time of 4:28.40, while Caleb Copper was third (4:37.67).

Finals for remaining races will take place Sunday in Gainesville. In all, 19 athletes from the LCKC are taking part in the US National Team Trials on the home course.
