The Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday night before Gwinnett Braves closer Craig Kimbrell slammed the door on a 5-2 win with back-to-back strike outs.
Every Gwinnett position player had at least one hit in the game as the G-Braves took the series, three games to one.
G-Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman remains hot at the plate after going 3-for-5 Thursday. Wes Timmons led the Gwinnett offense, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
Starter Cristhian Martinez (3-1) earned the win, striking out six while allowing one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Gwinnett (46-53) returns home for the first of a four-game set against Louisville at 7:05 tonight. Jose Ortegano (2-7, 6.12) is the scheluded starter for the G-Braves. Sam LeCure (6-2, 2.55) is expected to start for Louisville.
