CORTLAND, NY - The Piedmont College softball team's run in the NCAA Division III tournament ended with an 8-0 loss to Cortland State Monday in Cortland, N.Y.

The runner-up regional finish is the Lady Lions' best in the regionals since a fourth-place finish in 2006.

The Lady Red Dragons opened the scoring on an error and a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third.

Piedmont senior pitcher B.J. Cofer had been dominant with three complete-game victories in the regionals, yielding just a pair of earned runs, and having struck out 11 in more than 21 innings of work.

However, the veteran ran into more trouble in her fifth appearance of the weekend when the Red Dragons added a three-run double in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-0.

Cortland added another score on an RBI double later in the fourth, just before another Lady Lion miscue allowed the Red Dragons to plate their eighth run.
