Andrew Gale, a West Hall graduate, helped lead Piedmont College to win their second straight the USA South Conference men’s cross country championship on Saturday. Gale, a freshman, finished 12th overall with a time of 29 minutes, 49.9 seconds in the 8-kilometer distance to finish second team All-Conference honors.
Piedmont was paced by Bryce Griggs who finished second overall at 28:22, while Nathan Galloway was third (28:39).
Gale graduated from West Hall with a 4.52 GPA. He was also a Member of the National Honors Society. Gale was also a member on West Hall’s soccer team. His junior year at West Hall he finished in eighth place at State. Gale is an Engineering Major at Piedmont.
NORTH GEORGIA’S RAMEY NAMED PEACH BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK: University of North Georgia senior forward Jacy Ramey, a Flowery Branch High graduate, was named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday after connecting on back-to-back, game-winning goals against both Clayton State and Armstrong State.
Ramey capped her first-career hat trick with three goals for the 19th-ranked Nighthawks in the 5-0 win against Clayton State.
Against Armstrong State, Ramey connected on the game-winning goal with a corner kick in the 57th minute.
Ramey’s 11 goals is tied for third best in the Peach Belt Conference, while tied for seventh in assists.
On Wednesday, North Georgia hosts No. 6 Flagler in the conference tournament at 6 p.m. at the North Georgia Sports Complex in Dahlonega.
