North Georgia adds to staff

North Georgia College & State University’s acting athletics director Lindsay Reeves announced the addition and promotion of two colleagues in the athletics administration for the 2010-2011 season Thursday.

Derek Suranie has been named the acting associate director of athletics, while Denise Bryant has been promoted to acting senior women’s administrator, both positions effective immediately.

Suranie is familiar with the department, having served seven years as the head athletic trainer, while just completing his third year as the athletic training program coordinator and second as clinical coordinator. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department and will continue to coordinate the athletic training education curriculum.

In addition to her new responsibilities, Bryant will continue her duties as the compliance coordinator, which consists of overseeing recruiting activities, scholarships, the National Letter of Intent program and managing the NCAA eligibility center.

Bryant also oversees the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and is in her twentieth year with the university and seventeenth with the department of athletics.
