The North Georgia College & State University baseball team scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-4 win over Anderson University on Tuesday at Bob Stein Stadium in Dahlonega.
Chad Sage, a Chestatee graduate, hit a two-run home run in the first inning for the Saints (20-11, 6-9 Peach Belt Conference). Sage had a career day at the plate, going 5-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
North Georgia hosts No. 26 Columbus State at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bob Stein Stadium in Dahlonega.
NORTH GEORGIA SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER: The No. 5 Lady Saints defeated UNC Pembroke, 11-2, 1-0, on Tuesday at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega, to extend their winning streak to five games. North Georgia (32-8, 8-2 Peach Belt Conference) took the Game 1 victory on a walk-off, three-run home run from Pilar Harden in the sixth inning. Harden hit two home runs in the game. Sarah Phillips (12-4) earned the win in 5.2 inning of work, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out four.
Jessica Coan (16-2) earned the win in Game 2, while Kayla Martin scored the game's only run with a solo home run down the left-field line in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lady Saints visit Georgia Southwestern on Friday evening, followed by a trip to Columbus State University on Saturday.
NORTH GEORGIA WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES SEVENTH: The Lady Saints put together a final round 362 for a two-day total of 735 and seventh place in the Piedmont Spring Invitational on Tuesday at Orchard Golf & Country Club.
Young Harris (672) placed third, while host Piedmont College (694) was fourth in the 10-team tournament. North Georgia next plays in the Agnes McAmis Memorial Invitational at the Link Hill Country Club.
