The Young Harris College women’s basketball team rallied from a 21-point first-half deficit to defeat Truett McConnell 58-50 on Monday in Young Harris.
“They played with no quit and played with pride the whole time,” Young Harris coach Brenda Paul said. “Everyone on the team played as hard as they could.”
Breanna Gleeson scored 13 of her team-high 15 points in the second half and was six of 15 from the floor. LaDondra Johnson recorded a double-double, 14 points and 14 rebounds and Lauren Smith added 12 points, eight rebounds and a team-high four assists as the Lady Mountain Lions (6-9) were 23-of-68 shooting for 34 percent.
Young Harris returns to action 6 p.m., Wednesday against Berry College in Rome.
NGCSU MEN 68, UNIVERSITY OF MONTEVALLO 64: The Saints earned their second win in a row Monday evening at Memorial Hall in Dahlonega.
Montevallo trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half, but pulled within two with 10 seconds remaining. Carl Taylor snatched the game-sealing steal and drew a foul with one second left to secure the win for North Georgia (5-11, 2-5 Peach Belt Conference).
Clarence Tillman had a game-high 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while Taylor added 15 points for North Georgia, which hosts Flagler College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
NGCSU WOMEN 61, UNIVERSITY OF MONTEVALLO 48: The Lady Saints opened the game on an 19-6 run and led by as many as 23 points during the Peach Belt Conference win Monday at Memorial Hall in Dahlonega.
Lindsey Moss scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds for North Georgia (12-6, 3-4 PBC), which hosts Flagler College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
