The third-ranked University of North Georgia softball team punched its ticket to an NCAA Division II Super Regional by winning two games Saturday at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega.

The Nighthawks, who lost their Southeast Regional I opener last Thursday, beat Limestone 8-1 and 5-3 to win their third and fourth straight elimination games. North Georgia will host a Super Regional on Thursday and Friday against the winner of today’s game between Armstrong State and Pfeiffer.

After pulling out a win in Game 1, the Nighthawks endured a lengthy rain delay before beginning the deciding contest against Limestone.

The game itself went longer than usual, as well, requiring extra innings to determine which team would advance in the tournament. Hannah McSwain made sure it’d be North Georgia, clobbering a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning before Kylee Smith sent down the Limestone half on only six pitches.

Now the Nighthawks are set for their eighth Super Regional appearance in program history.
