The Piedmont College men’s soccer team earned its second straight overtime victory Sunday with a 2-1 win over Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va. The Wasps struck first in the match, but the Lions managed a tying goal in the second half before netting the game-winner in the second overtime period. Piedmont tallied 15 shots compared to 16 for the home team. In the second half, Emory and Henry scored a goal in the 53rd minute. With the clock winding down, scored a game-tying goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. Netting the score for PC was sophomore Mason Flynn. In the second overtime, the game appeared headed for a draw until Nick Weatherby put another loose ball in the box into the back of the net to send Piedmont home with an overtime win with 25 seconds remaining on the clock. Piedmont (2-2) hosts Southern Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Piedmont 2, Hollins 0: Marking their fourth shutout victory of the season, Piedmont outshot the home team 8-1 in the winning effort. Notching Piedmont’s first goal of the day was junior Dilyn MacLean, tapping away a corner kick early on in the first half. Later in the same period, senior midfielder Justine Clay netted her fourth goal in the past two games. The Lady Lions (5-0) will travel to Oglethorpe University and play next at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 14.
