The University of North Georgia softball program picked up a 9-1 win against Shepherd and beat Seton Hill 12-4 in five innings Saturday as part of the Captain D’s Classic at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega.
Against Shepherd, Sydney Sprague had a two-run homer and a Kaylyn Anthony had a three-run shot in the sixth inning for the Nighthawks (12-4). Kylee Smith earned the win for North Georgia in the circle, throwing five innings of one-hit ball.
Alishia Frierson finished the day going 5 for 8 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Nighthawks. Anthony, Sprague and Hannah McSwain each homered and added a double for North Georgia.
The Nighthawks face Shepherd at noon and Seton Hill at 2 p.m. today to wrap up the Captain D’s Classic in Dahlonega.
BRENAU WINS TWO AT GEORGIA GWINNETT: The Golden Tigers picked up a 6-2 win against West Virginia Tech and beat Georgia Gwinnett College 4-0 on Saturday in Lawrenceville. Against West Virginia Tech, Jessica Rathje picked up the win for Brenau, throwing seven innings and allowed only three hits and two walks in the circle.
At the plate, Autumn Conaway was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Golden Tigers. Mason Garland, Mackenzie Oliver Mullis and Shelton Kendrix each finished with two hits for Brenau.
In Game 2, Eli Daniel pitched a complete-game, one-hitter with 13 strikeouts for Brenau. Conaway, Kendrix and Courtney Kenney each contributed two hits.
Dominique Patrick scored 18 points and Briah Woods chipped in 17 for Brenau University as it defeated William Carey (Miss.) 68-64 on Saturday. On Monday, Brenau plays host to Blue Mountain College (Miss.) at 5:30 p.m. in Gainesville.
