College scoreboard: Bower throws six strong innings for North Georgia Nighthawks in 6-1 baseball win

University of North Georgia sophomore left-hander Steven Bower pitched a three-hit complete game in a 6-1 win against Florida Tech on Saturday in Dahlonega.

He finished with seven strikeouts, and allowed just three walks and three hits.

At the plate, Conner Corbitt had a two-run single, while Trevor Sams finished the game with two hits and two walks.

NORTH GEORGIA TAKES TWO IN FLORIDA: Kylee Smith pitched a complete-game shutout and picked up a save in the other game for the fourth-ranked University of North Georgia in a 2-0 win against Spring Hill and 3-2 over Eckerd in the Diamond9 Citrus Classic on Saturday in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

In the first game, Smith took a one-hitter going into the seventh inning and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the final frame to preserve the shutout victory. Stephanie Hartness had a two-run homer for the Nighthawks (17-5).

In the second game, Sydney Sprague and Alishia Frierson had RBI singles in the fifth inning for North Georgia. Buford High graduate Bria Bush picked up the win in relief, allowing four hits and two walks in three innings.

UNC PEMBROKE 87, NORTH GEORGIA MEN 83: Denzell Hosch put up 24 points and Dawson County High graduate Tyler Dominy finished with 20 points in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference tournament Saturday in Pembroke, N.C.

The Nighthawks now await a possible berth in the Division II NCAA tournament.

BRENAU 74, COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA 53: Autumn Dodson scored 12 points for the Golden Tigers (18-10) and Briah Woods chipped in 11 points as they set a new single-season wins record Saturday. At Brenau, the previous record for wins in a season with 17 in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Maya Mammetgulyyeva, Patricia Recalde and Paula Rives picked up singles victories for Brenau in a gritty 5-4 win against William Carey on Saturday in Mobile, Ala. In doubles, Mammetgulyyeva/Rebecca Pilijs and Recalde/Rives also earned wins.
