College baseball: No. 1 North Georgia tops UNC Pembroke, 16-10

The Top-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team evened the three-game series with UNC Pembroke with a 16-10 win Saturday at Sammy Cox Field in Pembroke, N.C. The Nighthawks (22-5, 9-2 Peach Belt Conference) took the lead in the top of the third on a Trevor Sam’s RBI single and didn’t look back. A seven-run surge in the top of the seventh aided by back-to-back RBI-doubles from Michael Gouge and Sams blew the game wide open. Gouge (3 for 4, three runs scored, 2 RBI) and designated hitter Bill Leroy (3 for 4, three runs scored 3 RBI) combined for six hits and five RBI to lead a North Georgia’s batting order that totaled 17 hits and 14 RBI for the afternoon.
