Sydney Romine runs the 100-meter hurdles during the second day of the SSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Mobile, Ala.

After the Brenau track and field team captured its fifth consecutive Southern States Athletic Conference championship last Saturday, several of its competitors earned all-conference recognition in a league announcement Wednesday.

The Golden Tigers produced five of first-team selections: Ayana Daniels (pole vault), Nia Griffin (800-meter race), Sydney Haas (hammer throw), Sydney Romine (100-meter hurdles) and Iman Williams (400-meter race). Placement on all-conference teams was determined by finishes at the SSAC meet in Mobile, Alabama.

Second-team honorees for Brenau included Haas (shot put), Ismaelle Occeus (triple jump), Anita Button (pole vault), Anazjah Mayes (400-meter hurdles), Alisa Sanford (high jump) and Cheyenne Wells (400-meter race, 100-meter hurdles).

Also landing on the league’s second team were the 3200-meter relay team of Daniels, Griffin, Elizabeth Lowe and Monika Nwajei; and the 1600-meter relay team of Griffin, Williams, Nwajei and Wells.

Shymane Callahan’s javelin performance helped her land on the third team, where she was joined by Romine (400-meter hurdles), Occeus (long jump), Sanford (triple jump), Haley Gill (pole vault) and Michelle Velazquez (10,000-meter race).

Members of the 400-meter relay team — Williams, Occeus, Wells and DeMichia Higgins — were also placed on the third team.

Button, Daniels, Nwajei, Occeus, Gill, Aunica Clinton and Felicia Gordon represented the Golden Tigers on the SSAC All-Academic team.
