The No. 1 University of North Georgia softball team won its fifth straight Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship with Wednesday’s doubleheader sweep against Georgia College in Dahlonega.
In the team’s 8-1 win in Game 1, Alishia Frierson smacked a home run for North Georgia (51-2, 17-1 PBC). Kaylyn Anthony and Jordan Deep each drove in three runs for the Nighthawks. Shelby Hammontree added an RBI for North Georgia, while Kylee Smith collected five strikeouts in seven innings.
In Game 2, a 4-0 victory, Hammontree and Hobby Gregory each had an RBI for North Georgia. Deep and Lexi Duncan both scored on an error.
North Georgia hosts its senior night with a doubleheader against Flagler at 5 p.m. Friday in Dahlonega.

Nick Clarno added a home run of his own for the Nighthawks (28-16) and finished with two RBIs. Chase Sudduth drove in two runs for North Georgia.
