Two struggling teams met Friday night and it was White County that scored on its first drive and never took a foot off the gas, defeating Chestatee 52-11.

White County (2-6 overall, 2-3 in region) entered with only one victory, against Madison County. The War Eagles remain winless (0-8, 0-5).

Chestatee received the opening kickoff. An 11-yard loss and an intentional grounding penalty which forced the War Eagles to punt from their own 1-yard line, a shaky start they could never dig themselves out of.

After scoring on 59- and 68-yard touchdowns to increase their lead to 21-3, White County kicker Bradley Hurst attempted an onside kick and the Warriors recovered. They drove 50 yards to increase the lead to 25 points, and end Chestatee’s hopes of coming back.

White County running back Kaleb Crane took part in a handful of third- and fourth-down conversions in the first half. He lined up as the quarterback in the wildcat for several plays, and as a fullback when the Warriors ran many option plays.

“The offensive line opened up big holes for us (running backs), and we played fast and moved the ball,” Crane said. The Warriors had 401 yards on the ground.

Chestatee, however, could not move the ball with the same ease. The receivers totaled six drops, including one in the end zone. Three of them would have been easy first downs.

“We have to make plays when they are there,” said Chestatee head coach Bill Forman. “We’re a young ballclub, and tonight we made some young mistakes.”
