Jefferson clinched the Region 8-AA title with a 35-7 win over Riverside Military Academy on Friday in Jefferson.
Tristen Jackson opened the scoring for the Dragons on an 11-yard run and sealed the win with another score on another 11-yard run in the third quarter. Jackson finished the game with 65 yards rushing.
Bryant Shirreffs paced the team with 81 yards and a touchdown rushing and was 16-of-21 for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns passing. Shirreffs scored on a 17-yard run early in the game and completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Donnie Hatfield and a 22-yard pass to McKay Dickens to put the Dragons up 28-7 at the half. Dickens was the team’s leading receiver with 66 yards.
Wesley Simonton had 15 tackles and a pass break-up for a defense that suppressed Riverside for most of the night. Tradd Porter tallied 12 tackles, and Kody McDonald had 11.
Jefferson plays host to Union County next Friday in Jefferson.
