With two defensive touchdowns in the first quarter, Lumpkin County High took an early lead over Union County and cruised to victory in Blairsville, 37-14.
B.J. Dorsey started the defensive scoring for the Indians, taking a fumble recovery 25 yards for a touchdown. Trey Parker also scored on a fumble recovery to give Lumpkin County an early 14-0 lead.
"Our defense played really well tonight," said Lumpkin coach Tommy Jones. "They limited the efficiency of the Union offense and made them work all night."
Michael Flanagan had two rushing touchdowns for the Indians, while backup quarterback Logan Moye played extremely well in place of starting QB Taylor Guthrie, according to Jones.
Moye went 5-for-7 passing with a rushing touchdown. Taylor Burns added a field goal after Lumpkin County opened up the third quarter with an 8:00 drive.
Lumpkin County (2-0) is off next week, while Union County (1-1) plays host to Hart County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
