Your Views: Bravo to DNR for upholding laws

I would like to thank the DNR officer who arrested the border-jumper poachers at Wahoo Creek. As for these so-called lawyers that have the temerity to portray the malefactors as victims, I question their agendas. I wonder if they put a few dozen of them up in their own homes in the spirit of setting an example of leadership. I do not think that gauntlet will be picked up.

As for the several groups of illegal alien fishermen at other places, I have of late noted that the half-dozen regular Sunday afternoon anglers at the state park just east of the big green bridge into Forsyth County have ceased gracing that serene place with their presence. Neither they nor their 20-plus poles (yes, 20 plus) anchored in the beach rocks have been greeting visitors since our DNR officer did his job.

As for the other group that fished out on the point, only a rude pile of trash remains to bear witness of their presence.

Perhaps the vociferous lawyers who so self-righteously blathered should go pick up the invaders' trash, or are they too good to do it? Dulce et decorum est.

Thank God for the DNR, at least that officer, and thank God for Sheriff Steve Cronic and the Hall County deputies. They are the best there is.

Boat blower should not run while refueling
In the May 7 issue of The Times, it was stated the blower may have been turned on while refueling the sailboat that exploded.

For many years I was an instructor for a safe boating course given by Sandusky, Ohio, Power Squadron, a division of United States Power Squadrons. Their manual taught to never run an electric motor on any boat while refueling. The proper procedure is to close all ports and hatches and turn off all electric motors. Do not run the blower as this could suck any fumes that might be expelled by the blower back into the boat, as the motor sucks in air from one side of the boat and out the other.

Electric motors may spark when running. Also, be sure the gas nozzle is firmly in place. When the refueling has been completed, the boat ports and hatches should be opened and the boat well-ventilated. The engine hatch should be opened, and the best sniffer you can have is your nose. If no fumes are detected, then run the blower for at least five minutes. This should always be done before you start the engine.

I believe, if proper procedure has been followed, this accident might not have happened.

City has many who help with fibromyalgia
Sunday's article about fibromyalgia expressed one person's opinion that Gainesville was without adequate medical resources for fibromyalgia sufferers.

I strongly disagree with this opinion, as Gainesville has a number of internists, pain management and other specialists, physical therapists, chiropractors and certified massage therapists and at least one acupuncturist. I have found all of these medical professionals to be highly trained and very interested in relieving the pain and improving the quality of life for their patients.
