I want to start by saying congratulations to Gainesville High School student Cody Stephens for being named valedictorian. His work and persistence are to be commended. The fact that he was named co-valedictorian takes nothing away from my respect for him.

I don't know who the other student is, but to me it would be more than appropriate if it was Patrick Kelly, the exceptional GHS student who was tragically killed in a wreck. In any case, I feel the objection is premature until there is full disclosure.

I wish Mr. Stephens the best and hope he is remembered for an incredible valedictory speech instead of the public objection.
