Want to have a nice lunch with friends and do a little shopping? Visit downtown Gainesville, the "Historic Square". But be warned: don't dally longer than two hours or you will be fined. Parking on and around the square is strictly limited to two hours.

Teams of Gainesville police officers are busily marking tires and writing tickets to combat this crime wave. So plan your visit carefully. Lunch or shop, but keep track of the time. Do your business quickly and vacate the premises.

But wait! Did I miss something? Could it be that this is really a devilishly subtle part of the master plan to encourage more people to patronize downtown businesses? Hmmm. Sure had the opposite effect on me.
