Letter: Evil escalated when we turned God out of our public schools

Another school shooting and just like clockwork we have liberal sources calling for more gun control. But they have no suggested gun control measures that would have prevented the carnage. The simple fact is that we already have sufficient gun control laws on the books that “should” have prevented the shooting.

The truth is you can’t legislate morality and you can’t legislate away evil. Those who wish to do evil things will always find a way. Even if you could magically eliminate every gun on the planet, there are still motor vehicles that have been effectively used to kill. And what about bombs?

Nobody, however, appears to be looking to the root cause of the violence. Some point to mental illness, others to video games, movies and the like. While all have their effect, none are the root cause.

So what is the root cause? I would suggest that 55 years ago, they took prayer out of our public schools, followed by removing God and every reference to Him they could from every public venue they possibly could. Every action we take has its consequences, positive or negative. I would also suggest removing God from our public life produces more than an equal and opposite reaction. I would suggest that it produces a chain reaction, more related to nuclear fusion.

By following the atheistic, secular humanistic model where there is no absolute, no right or wrong, just a moral relativism, we have produced a generation of people with no moral compass. Who believe that what is wrong for you is not necessarily wrong for me. What did we expect?

It is not going to get better. It will only get worse unless we, as a nation, repent and turn back to God. One has only to look to the history of Israel as is shown in the Bible to see what happened to them when they turned their backs on God and how they prospered when they repented and turned back to God. Do we think that we are immune to God’s laws?

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
