Opinion: Clyde’s comments are an insult to all Americans

After watching the recent hearings regarding the Jan. 6 insurrection, I was appalled by District 9 Rep. Andrew Clyde’s comments. Calling the insurrection, a “bald-face lie” and the mob a bunch of “orderly tourists” went beyond the pale.

For those of us who watched in horror as our Capitol was stormed by a murderous crowd threatening to hang our vice president and harm our legislators, Rep. Clyde’s remarks are an insult to all Americans.

To have Rep. Clyde not only spread the “Big Lie” but also lie about what happened on Jan. 6 is an excruciating embarrassment. All Georgians, whether Republican, Democrat or independent should be dismayed that this man represents our city, our district and our state. I, for one, will do all I can to ensure that Rep. Clyde serves one term and one term only.
