America is a country that has set its eyes on ideals: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Freedom and opportunity for all. America has wrestled with those concepts but none more vividly than the servicemembers tasked with protecting our freedoms. Our freedom of religion, speech, press and protest. Our right to bear arms. Our freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. Our right to a fair trial and freedom from excessive bail, fines and cruel and unsual punishment.

Our servicemembers have stepped up to defend these ideals. And for that, we owe them everything.

On this Memorial Day, we remember the sacrifices of those who served our country and died.

We hope we can live continuing to pursue America’s ideals.
