Letter: Retired educators invited to take part in celebration, meetings

Gov. Nathan Deal has designated Nov. 6 as Retired Educator Day in Georgia. Georgia has more than 118,000 retired educators. They contribute countless volunteer hours each year which enrich the lives of many of our residents. We hope our area churches will join in announcing this day of appreciation for this group that has given so much of themselves to the young people in our state.

More than 26,000 of these retired educators belong to the Georgia Retired Educators Association. We have an active Hall/Gainesville Retired Educator Association locally which meets eight times a year. Our next meeting is at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, in the Gainesville Civic Center. We’d like to invite all retired educators living in our area to come and visit and check us out.
