Letter: Evangelical Christians support for Trump defies logic, true faith

Donald Trump has alienated Hispanics, Asians, Muslims, blacks, women, the disabled and the media. Is there any group left? Apparently he is good with white men and 71 percent of evangelical Christians. I am completely dumbfounded about the Christians. I don’t get it.

Trump is full of pride and brags how he does not repent but he doesn’t sin. That is where he lost me. You see, if you are a real Christian, you believe all people sin and fall short of the glory of god. God hates pride and Trump is full of pride. He has never shown any humility or empathy toward the poor, needy and misfortunate. He even called John McCain a loser, and attacked the mother who lost her son in war because she was a Muslim.

Dr. Russell Moore, head of the Moral and Ethics Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, has said Trump is “moral sewage” and that he is against everything Christians believe. I hear Dr. Moore blowing the trumpet to warn us, so why don’t other Christians hear? Or if they do, why do they choose to disregard his warnings?

I believe it is because far too many evangelical Christians are not anchored in the Word. They don’t read, meditate, believe, apply and obey it daily, which is why they are having trouble recognizing right from wrong. That leads to disaster. In Hebrews, we read, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Wake up, Christians, before it is too late. A vote for Trump is like selling your soul to the devil.
