Letter: Deal backed religious freedom before, now changes his tune

While he was in Congress, Gov. Nathan Deal supported wholeheartedly the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The federal RFRA law contains the same wording included in the Georgia RFRA bill. I understand that the governor pledged to sign a bill containing the language of the federal law. Gov. Deal is now unwilling to support this bill.

Protecting the freedom of individual Christians to live out their faith in their businesses, workplaces, classrooms and boardrooms should be a basic function of government, federal and state. Apparently, Gov. Deal bowed to the world’s view on this issue. His fellow believers in Christ were counting on his protection of this right.

Gov. Deal stated that the Jesus he knows wouldn’t discriminate against anyone. The Jesus I know threw over the tables and drove out the money changers who were desecrating the Lord’s house.(Matthew 21:12). Has the governor allowed the money changers to rule his heart?
