Zack Thompson and Barbara Brooks joined the dais of the Gainesville City Council for their first meeting Tuesday night.
“I look forward to a great year,” Thompson said. “I’m honored to be here.”
Thompson was elected in November to represent Ward 2. He replaces Councilman Bob Hamrick, who retired at the end of 2015 after 46 years of service.
Brooks, meanwhile, beat three other candidates to represent Ward 3, which includes the city’s historic African-American neighborhoods. She replaces Myrtle Figueras, who also retired at the end of last year.
“I’m just feeling impressed,” Brooks said, adding that her first meeting was well-planned and run efficiently. “I look forward to getting into the work sessions.”
